Preliminary Program

Keynote Address:
A highlight at this year's meeting will be the keynote address given Thursday, February 19, by Dr. Nora D. Volkow, new Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
Theme Lectures:
Public Health/Epidemiology Theme Lecturer: Judith D. Wilkenfeld, J.D., Director, International Programs, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids will lecture Thursday, February 19 on "Making a Difference - How Good Science Makes Good Policy".
Basic Theme Lecturer: Dr. David Balfour, Professor of Behavioural Pharmacology in The University of Dundee Medical School., Department of Psychiatry at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee will present "If Tobacco Dependence Equals Nicotine Dependence , Why Doesn't NRT Work Better?" on Friday, February 20.
Clinical Theme Lecturer: Dr. Stephen Tiffany, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Utah School of Medicine will present "The Emergence of Tobacco Dependence: Assessment and Conceptualization of Moving Targets" on Saturday, February 21.
Additional Meeting Highlights:
As recipient of the 2004 Ove Ferno Award for Clinical Research on Nicotine and Tobacco, Dr. Ovide Pomerleau (Professor of Psychology, University of Michigan) will give a lecture on Thursday, February 19 entitled, “Confessions of a Latter-day Behaviorist”.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco. The meeting program celebrates SRNT's progress and growth during the first decade and address its future course.
SRNT Annual Meeting will also feature sessions describing cutting-edge basic and clinical research in nicotine and tobacco. Approximately 800 researchers and clinicians whose work spans the range of molecular, genetic, preclinical, clinical, epidemiological, and public health research will be in attendance at the meeting. Like last year, symposia, paper, and poster sessions will be joined by other events. In addition, exciting pre-conference meetings being planned.
