Theme Lectures

The 13th Annual Meeting of the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) will begin with Opening Remarks and an Awards Ceremony at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, February 21, followed by a Welcome Reception from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. The next three days of scientific programming will feature:

Keynote Address:  Thursday, February 22
“Brain Nicotinic Receptors: From Molecular Biology to Cognition and Addiction” by Dr. Jean-Pierre Changeux, Department of Neuroscience at Pasteur Institute

Clinical Theme Lecture: Thursday, February 22
“Sex Differences in Nicotine and Non-Nicotine Reinforcement and Reward: Implications for Smoking Cessation Treatment” by Dr. Kenneth Perkins, Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology and Epidemiology, University of Pittsburgh

Pre-Clinical Theme Lecture: Friday, February 23
“What is the Role of Nicotine in Smoking? A Perspective from Animal Research” by Dr. Anthony Caggiula, Professor and Chair of Psychology, University of Pittsburgh

Public Health/Epidemiology Theme Lecture: Friday, February 23
“Integrating Tobacco Industry and Tobacco Use Control: Tackling Harm and Dependence in a Culture of Consumption” by Dr. Ron Borland, Nigel Gray Distinguished Fellow in Cancer Prevention, VicHealth Center for Tobacco Control, Cancer Control Research Institute, and The Cancer Council Victoria

Other Meeting Events: Highlights of the meeting will be symposia, paper sessions, and poster sessions that represent three primary conference tracks, pre-clinical, clinical and public health/epidemiology.  There will also be a New Investigator’s Paper Session, a Members’ Meeting, and exhibitors on hand throughout the conference.
