National Cancer Information Center Tour

Following the SRNT 2007 Meeting, the American Cancer Society (ACS) would like to offer interested SRNT members the opportunity to tour the National Cancer Information Center (NCIC) in Austin.

NCIC is a nationwide help line, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which answers calls and emails from the general public, cancer patients, family members and friends of cancer patients, and others who have questions about cancer-related issues including tobacco cessation. NCIC also houses the ACS Smokers’ Quitline. The Quitline provides evidence-based, telephone-based tobacco cessation assistance. Since 2000 the Quitline has served over 214,000 tobacco users and currently provides services to 12 states and over 50 employers and health plans nationwide.

NCIC recently celebrated our ten year anniversary of answering calls from across the country. Our new state of the art Stonehollow location opened in November of 2006. The center is more than 72,000 square feet and currently houses more than 450 staff.

ACS will provide tours to SRNT attendees on Saturday afternoon (February 24) following close of the meeting and on Sunday (February 25) if there is sufficient interest. ACS will provide round trip transportation from the Hilton to NCIC and refreshments during the tour. Each tour will be limited to 8 people. We are planning on offering two tours on Saturday and one on Sunday. Additional tours may be added if needed.

The current tour schedule is:

Saturday February 24, 2006 (includes travel time to and from hotel)
2:30 - 5:00
4:30 - 7:00

Sunday February 25, 2006
10:00 - 12:30

Please contact Ana Abarca at Ana.Abarca@cancer.org or (512) 997-3018 if you are interested in a tour so that we may plan an adequate number of tours and quantity of refreshments to accommodate everyone. More information will be available at the ACS exhibit at SRNT.

Thank you - see you in Austin in February!
