Call for Course Materials – SRNT’s Global Certification Program

Dear SRNT Members,

I’m writing to ask for your help in developing course material for SRNT’s Global Certification Program. Specifically, we are asking you to contribute course materials you may have already developed as part of your work.

Our Global Certification Program Curriculum Review Board, made up of SRNT members from 20 countries, has developed learning objectives and reviewed online resources to support a program to teach basic research skills to frontline tobacco cessation treatment and tobacco control professionals, particularly those in lower- and middle-income countries. Our group has identified some learning objectives that are not addressed by existing online, free courses, indicating areas where SRNT needs to develop course material. These "gaps" include areas such as

  • types of tobacco and nicotine delivery products
  • literature review
  • study design
  • collaboration
  • ethics and adverse events
  • presenting to a scientific/clinical audience.

The full list of learning objectives not addressed by existing courses contains more detail.

Many of you teach courses or have developed lectures related to these learning objectives. We ask you to consider sharing you materials with SRNT as a contribution to the Global Certification Program. If you have any materials (Powerpoint files, documents, webinars, videos, podcasts, etc.) you believe at least partially address one or more of the learning objectives listed below, and are willing to contribute them to SRNT, please send them to the Global Certification Program Operations Coordinator, Aishwarya Vidyasagaran (av661@york.ac.uk), by June 12, 2017. Please let Aishwarya know if you plan to contribute large files—she will help you to upload them to a Google Drive folder.

Please be sure to specify which learning objectives your course materials address, and to fill out, sign, scan and send the course materials release form along with your course materials.

We may combine several contributions, reformat, or make substantial modifications to material to fully address learning objectives. Any donated course material used in the final program will be “rebranded” as SRNT material to ensure consistency across SRNT educational materials, and the final materials will include acknowledgements of the individuals who made contributions for each course.

We welcome contributions that address research skills in a general way, or that address nicotine and tobacco research skills specifically. Because the target audience is frontline professionals in lower- and middle-income countries who are not academic researchers, the course materials should be relevant to basic or fundamental research skills.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email Mona Johnson (mjohnson@reesgroupinc.com). I want to express my thanks in advance to anyone who can contribute material to this project. With the help of hundreds of our members, we are working to build research capacity around the globe!
