SRNT NewsletterAdvancing Science & Health May/June 2007, Volume 13, Number 2 SRNT Europe
9th Annual Conference of SRNT Europe Madrid, 3rd - 6th October, 2007 By, Dr. Carlos A. Jiménez-Ruiz, Chair of the 9th Annual Conference of SRNT Europe. The 9th Annual Conference of the SRNT Europe will take place in Madrid from October 3rd to 6th, 2007. All of the staff from the SRNT Europe Board of Directors and Scientific Committees have been working hard to bring you an interesting and attractive scientific program. Leading international experts will present new findings in basic and clinical research as well as relevant tobacco policies. Delegates attending this Conference will have the opportunity to gain new knowledge from several lectures, round table discussions and symposiums that will focus on the most recent scientific advances in tobacco. There will be plenty of time and opportunity to share clinical and basic research experiences in each of the different sessions. The structure of the program is comprised of lectures, basic and clinical research symposiums, basic and clinical research panels, one round table discussion on smoking prevention and one basic research debate. A vital component of the program will be the poster sessions and oral presentations showing the most recent research findings in the field of nicotine and tobacco. While we have formed a busy scientific program, delegates will have time to also visit Madrid. Madrid is a beautiful city located in the heart of Spain. In October, the climate in Madrid is warm and invites foreigners to go around the city, enjoy the wonderful architecture and sample the delicious food.
I would like to thank the board of SRNT Europe, the Scientific Committee, and Karl O. Fagerström who is the co-chair of this Conference for all their help. Their effort and work have been essential for building up this Conference and I hope all of you can come to Madrid to enjoy it. Please note that the deadline for abstract submissions has been extended until JUNE 30, 2007. Please go online for more information about the conference and how to submit an abstract http://www.srnt2007madrid.com
News on 10th Annual Conference of the SRNT Europe, 2008: Rome, Italy
By, Prof. Christian Chiamulera, Chair of European Conference Program Committee
The European SRNT Board has recently chosen the next venue for the 2008 Conference: Rome, Italy. The decision was taken after an accurate evaluation of two candidate cities, Bristol, UK (proposed by Marcus Munafò), and Rome. Considering the content and quality of proposals, it was difficult for the Board to take a final decision between the two venues.
The Rome 2008 Conference will be chaired by Giacomo Mangiaracina (La Sapienza University, Rome) and co-chaired by myself. The conference will be held in collaboration with the Italian Society of Tobaccology. Although a definitive date has not been finalized yet (presumably early October or late September, 2008), the conference hotel has already been decided, Hotel Villa Pamphili. This hotel is very close to the city center and many tourist attractions, and while this ancient villa has an old history, it has all the modern technology needed for our conference. Alternative accommodations will be available at a reduced rate for individuals who do not wish to stay at the conference hotel. Shuttle services will be also available for transportation between the hotels and city center.
We are in the process of planning the scientific program and the general organization of the conference, which will be provided to the SRNT membership. Arrivederci a Roma!
