POST-DOCTORAL

University of Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center: Fellowships in Addiction Psychiatry/Addiction Medicine. The Addiction Sciences Division offers two fellowship programs in Addictions. The first is a one-year addiction psychiatry fellowship that is ACGME approved. The second is a two-year clinical research addiction medicine fellowship, which is open to primary care doctors, such as OB/GYN, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, and other non-psychiatrists. Fellows are exposed to an assortment of rich clinical environments that includes rotations in a nationally-recognized Clinical Program of Excellence in Substance Abuse. Research opportunities exist in two NIH-funded addiction research centers, studying illicit drug abuse, and alcohol and tobacco addiction, respectively. Fellowship Faculty is comprised of addiction specialists from multiple disciplines, each of whom is dedicated to quality patient care, teaching, or research. Opportunities exist for post-fellowship positions within the Department of Psychiatry, VA, or College of Medicine. University of Pittsburgh Medical Center: Post-doctoral position in human behavioral pharmacology of nicotine. A post-doctoral position in the behavioral pharmacology of nicotine in humans may be available in the laboratory of Dr. Kenneth A. Perkins at the University of Pittsburgh. This position is funded through NHLBI. Ongoing NIDA-supported projects focus on: 1) environmental modulation of nicotine responses and tobacco self-administration, 2) individual differences associated with sensitivity to nicotine, including gender, genetic, and personality factors. Applicants also interested in clinical research may become involved in smoking cessation studies. University of Waterloo (Waterloo, Ontario) at the Department of Psychology invites applications for a Post-doctoral Fellow Position. The Fellowship is supported by a major health research grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and is a full-time contract position with the possibility of an annual renewal appointment. The Post-doctoral Fellow will be involved in all aspects of the design and execution of research as a member of the International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project (the ITC Project). The ITC Project is an international collaboration of tobacco control researchers who are conducting several interrelated international research projects to evaluate the psychosocial and behavioral effects of the tobacco control policies contained in the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). The ITC Research Team consists of over 50 tobacco control researchers across 13 countries (Australia, Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, China, Mexico, Uruguay, France, and New Zealand). The core research methods used are prospective cohort surveys of nationally representative samples of adult smokers in each of the participating countries. Applicants must have a background in tobacco control research _ preferably with knowledge or past experience with international issues in tobacco control. Knowledge of survey research is essential. Expertise in survey methodology sampling, and/or analysis of complex survey data is desirable. Background in health psychology and other behavioral research approaches to health is desirable. This appointment is scheduled to begin September 1, 2007. Applications will be reviewed as received and this process will continue until the position is filled. RESEARCH/ADMINISTRATION

American Cancer Society _ Program Director, Survey Research. The American Cancer Society's National Home Office in Atlanta, GA is seeking a Program Director of Survey Research who will be responsible for survey design, construction, and administration, including archival, retrieval, and analysis. Collaborates with American Cancer Society investigators (primarily Health and Social Scientists and Epidemiologists) on the design and statistical analysis of research surveys regarding cancer survivors and caregivers. Collaborates with the Integrated Evaluation Committee to evaluate American Cancer Society Programs. Supervises statistical staff who conduct data management and statistical analyses. Assists in finalizing overall sample surveys. Assists with and supports the design and analysis of cross-sectional and longitudinal sample survey data. Writes components of grant applications to the NIH or other agencies. Reviews and critiques grant applications submitted to the ACS. Writes survey related components of protocols for and negotiates with contractors who provide survey research services. Participates in writing manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals or for ACS internal use. Mentors young scientists and student interns. Maintains an active research program that leads to regular peer reviewed publications. Reports directly to the Director, Survey Research -Statistics and Evaluation Center. Requirements include PhD and minimum 2 years professional experience and a strong record in sample survey design and analysis experience in health and/or behavioral sciences. Demonstrated excellent analytic, conceptual, and quantitative/qualitative methodology skills and strong attention to detail. Demonstrated methodological research program which leads to regular peer reviewed publications. Knowledge of management principles and practices. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups. Ability to direct, supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to communicate with volunteers, staff, and constituencies from multiple organizations, and to provide strategic guidance in a collaborative, consultative, and positive manner. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to collaborate with multiple agencies. Ability to work directly with and for leadership in various areas of the organizations in an equally objective and positive manner.
