Highlights of Upcoming 6th SRNT Europe Meeting:
October 6-9, 2004: Tübingen, Germany
SRNT Europe is organizing the 6th European Conference which, on this occasion, is to be held in the beautiful university town of Tübingen in southern Germany. The 1st European Conference was held in 1998 in Copenhagen and was followed by conferences in London, Paris and Santander. The 5th Conference in Padua attracted more than 350 scientists. This year the Programme Committee is planning a series of stimulating lectures and symposia to address the following topics:
Basic Science
- Genetics - from genetic epidemiology to molecular research
- Neuroscience - receptor profiles, animal and human behavioral models, and neuroendocrine interactions
- Advances in neurobiological research of nicotine dependence in Germany
Ethics and Politics
- Ethics and methodology in addiction research
- Smoking politics in Europe, including the effects of price policies and smoke-free workplaces
Treatment
- Smoking, health and therapeutic needs
- Updates on new behavioral and pharmacological treatments for tobacco dependence
- Harm reduction strategies and pitfalls
- Helping smokers to quit - assessment of smokers' psychological characteristics, genetic implications for pharmacological treatment
Colleagues are invited to submit abstracts for papers on topics including but not restricted to those listed above. The deadline for abstracts will be August 10th, 2004. The proposals will be evaluated by members of the Programme Committee prior to acceptance. Further details for the submission of abstracts can be found on the Conference's website (www.srnteurope2004.de). The final program will be published on this site on September 30th, 2004.
Early registration will be possible until August 30th, 2004. The registration fees range from 150 to 320 Euro, depending on SRNT membership. This fee will include the registration package, admission to all scientific sessions, the welcome reception, lunch, snacks, coffee breaks, and free usage of all buses within the town limits.
Apart from the scientific program, the university town of Tübingen offers a rich cultural and intellectual life and its people welcome visitors warmheartedly. The region boasts an extraordinarily charming and varying landscape, a paradise for leisure activities, hiking and cycling. Castles, fortresses, monasteries and chapels, caves, waterfalls, game preserves and the forested natural reservation area of the "Schšnbuch" are worth an excursion beyond the town limits of Tübingen.
Tübingen is a 25 minute drive from the Stuttgart airport. You can also reach Tübingen in 55 minutes by train from Stutgart's main railway station. The Tübingen Tourist Office will be offering special rates for participants of the SRNT Europe Conference. Tübingen has a good selection of hotels ranging
in price from 35 to 97 Euro for single rooms and 68 to 167 Euro for double/twin rooms. From most of the hotels, the conference site can easily be reached with the local bus services (during daytime, a bus every 5 minutes).
