Postdoctoral

Duke University Medical Center: Post-doctoral Fellow in Clinical Psychology, Research in Smoking and Psychiatric Disorders. A two-year post-doctoral research fellowship in clinical psychology, focusing on assessment and treatment of smoking in psychiatric populations, with a specific focus on posttraumatic stress disorder is available through the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. This fellowship would include participation in a range of projects including smoking cessation trials, laboratory-based psychophysiological studies (e.g., startle and pre-pulse inhibition) and ambulatory assessment and treatment studies using electronic diaries. Opportunities will be available to obtain experience in grant writing and manuscript preparation. The successful applicant will work within a multidisciplinary team to coordinate the assessment and management of research subjects enrolled in several funded studies currently being conducted by the research group. Southern Illinois University Carbondale: Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Psychology's Integrative Neuroscience Laboratory. This position is primarily research oriented, focusing on the effects of nicotine on attention and affect as assessed with state-of-the-art eye-gaze tracking and electrocortical measures in 2 federally-funded projects. The fellow will receive in-depth training and mentoring and will work with Dr. Gilbert designing studies, collecting data, analyzing results, and writing manuscripts for publication. The training environment includes several faculty with expertise in related areas, including EEG/ERP, fMRI, eye-tracking, substance abuse, and genetics (molecular and behavioral), as well as medical school faculty and doctoral programs in psychology and neurosciences. Minimal qualifications include a Ph.D. in Psychology or related sciences, with research interests and experience in human brain imaging (including electrocortical measures [EEG & ERP], Low Resolution Brain Electromagnetic Tomography [LORETA] and/or fMRI), attentional and affective processes, substance abuse, and/or tobacco smoking. University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Department of Psychiatry: Postdoctoral Fellowship with Treatment and Services Researcher: UCSF Department of Psychiatry seeks applicants for an anticipated postdoctoral position to train with James L. Sorensen, Ph.D. in substance abuse treatment and services research. The trainee would work in the participation, design, and implementation of studies on treatment of drug dependence. We have a productive and creative group working on research-practice integration with several associated treatment programs and the California-Arizona Research Node of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network. University of Colorado Health Sciences Center: Post-doctoral fellowship in Molecular Neurobiology of the Human Nicotinic Receptor Gene Family: A Postdoctoral position is open immediately for study of the molecular neurobiology of human nicotinic receptors in both mental illness and nicotine addiction. Expression and function of nicotinic receptors are being studied in human postmortem brain and in blood leukocytes from both schizophrenic and control subjects, smokers and non-smokers. Rodent models are also being studied. Several projects are open: 1) Characterization of receptor subunits by ligand binding in smokers and non-smokers, 2) Steroid regulation of gene promoter activity, and 3) Microarray studies in postmortem brain of smokers and non-smokers. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, pharmacology, neuroscience, or related field, with a background in the measurement of expression and function. University of Pittsburgh Medical Center: Post-doctoral position in human behavioral pharmacology of nicotine. A post-doctoral position in the behavioral pharmacology of nicotine in humans may be available in the laboratory of Dr. Kenneth A. Perkins at the University of Pittsburgh. Ongoing NIDA-supported projects focus on: 1) environmental modulation of nicotine responses and tobacco self-administration, 2) individual differences associated with sensitivity to nicotine, including gender, genetic, and personality factors. The Center for Health Promotion (CHP), Seattle: Unique opportunity for Research Scientist with expertise in Tobacco Cessation and/or Weight Management to join our Research and Evaluation team. Reporting to Dr. Tim McAfee, Chief Medical Officer, the Research Scientist will design and conduct studies, provide scientific oversight, and promote scientific findings to support the broader business goals of our organization. Other responsibilities will include providing scientific consult on CHP business issues, presenting and publishing scientific findings, and representing CHP to the health care and scientific community. The ideal candidate is someone with an established research portfolio in Tobacco Cessation and/or Weight Management who is eager to conduct real-world research and work with a team to translate scientific findings into practice, helping CHP provide the best evidence-based health behavior change programs. CHP is a national leader in developing and delivering effective evidence based telephone and web-based health behavior change programs including tobacco cessation and weight management serving approximately 75,000 individuals each year. We have an excellent publication and scientific presentation record. CHP is actively collaborating on nine research projects involving tobacco cessation interventions with youth, adults, and individuals using state quit lines to test different web and phone intervention strategies.
