SRNT NewsletterNov/Dec 2005, Volume 11, Number 4 From the Editor
Dear SRNT Members, Welcome to the November issue of the SRNT Newsletter! As I'm sure you are acutely (and, perhaps, painfully?) aware, this is an exceptionally hectic time of year for many of us, so I feel a certain sense of achievement that this issue has arrived on your doorstep (er, inbox) at last! SRNT members really stepped up to the plate for this issue, setting aside no shortage of competing demands to contribute regular features and other newsworthy items. Here in Michigan, the last vestiges of nice weather are turning into fond memories, and, yet again, I'm starting to envy our colleagues in milder climates. Here's looking forward to some sunshine in Orlando! And, if that alone isn't enough to entice you to join us in February for the 12th Annual SRNT Meeting, our tireless Program Chair Suzanne Colby has provided an article to update you on the scientific programming. I hope that you will enjoy Karen Cropsey's review of Charles Dodgen's "Nicotine Dependence: Understanding and Applying the Most Effective Treatments, a new book from the American Psychological Association (APA). Speaking of APA, some of us were fortunate to attend the annual convention in Washington, DC this past August. In case you missed that meeting, Jack Henningfield and I prepared an article summarizing the nicotine-related presentations at APA, most of which were made by SRNT members. This issue also highlights the recent activities of the University of Minnesota TTURC, thanks to the effort of their scientific writer, Jeanne Mettner. If you find the UMN article interesting, please don't hesitate to contact me if you might consider writing a similar piece about your own program for a future issue. Please do not hesitate to send me your suggestions, contributions, comments, letters, and feedback on both content and format. In particular, I am always looking to identify SRNT members who would be willing to prepare reports on their program's activities, prepare book reviews, or prepare original contributions or commentaries. You are welcome contact me at ksaules@emich.edu, or by more-traditional methods, if you have any suggestions or would like to contribute to future issues. Warm regards,
