New members scholarship program
In response to several requests for SRNT to offer discounted memberships
to potential members
from developing regions, the SRNT Executive Committee has approved a proposal
from the
Membership Committee to develop a Scholarship Program. The purpose of this
program is to
support researchers from developing countries who otherwise could not afford
to join.
Although committee members still have to finalize some details, SRNT
would offer 10 scholarships
(five for students and five for full or affiliate level members) each year.
As with the Global Travel
Awards, applicants would submit a request to the Global Network committee for
consideration. The
Global Network committee is currently developing review criteria for inclusion
in this program.
Scholarships for each individual will be available for a maximum of three years,
with renewal on a
competitive basis.
In order to fund this program, SRNT will commit to supporting 10 memberships.
In addition, the
Society will invite contributions from within the existing membership. We may
also seek support
from corporations and granting agencies, if necessary. Members will be able
to contribute as much
as they like; the cost of a full or student membership may be the suggested
contribution amount.
If SRNT receives more contributions than necessary to cover the 10 scholarships,
the money will
carry over to the following year or SRNT may add more scholarships. If SRNT
does not receive
enough contributions to support the 10 scholarships, the Society will cover
the difference. In the
unlikely event that no donations are forthcoming, SRNT will continue to support
a maximum of 10
scholarships per year from its own funds.
The scholarship program will begin the 2004 membership year. Please
consider contributing to this
worthwhile program. If you have any questions or comments regarding this program,
contact Beth
Klipping, Harry Lando, or Ovide Pomerleau. |
