Resources for Researchers

Additional resources are available in the member's only section.

http://www.nida.nih.gov - Many Program Announcements relevant to tobacco researchers can be found on the NIDA website. NIDA's director, Dr. Volkow, states that cigarette smoking, the most preventable cause of cancer, is a primary target of NIDA's research portfolio and, in an overview of priorities, highlights medications development, genetic and epigenetic research, and interventions using web- and computer-based technologies (http://www.drugabuse.gov/Funding/Budget10.html).

http://www.cancer.gov - Program Announcements relevant to tobacco researchers include, "Testing tobacco products promoted to reduce harm", "Small grants for behavioral research in cancer control", and "Reducing risk behaviors by promoting positive youth development."

www.cdc.gov - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), through its Office on Smoking and Health (OSH), is the lead federal agency for comprehensive tobacco prevention and control. OSH funds health departments in all 50 states. Funded programs focus on tobacco use prevention, cessation, smoke-free environments, and tobacco-related disparities.
