SRNT is pleased to announce the launch of its first educational certificate: the Smoking Cessation Research Certificate. This curriculum is offered free of charge to SRNT members and to non-members who create free accounts with SRNT.

The goal of this certificate program is to provide introductory-level training on research methods suitable for smoking cessation treatment research, along with relevant background information.

This training may be particularly useful for graduate students, medical school students and residents interested in understanding or conducting smoking cessation research, as well as postdoctoral fellows, healthcare professionals worldwide, and members of transdisciplinary teams wishing to enhance their understanding of nicotine and tobacco research.

SCR-102 Scientific Journals and Literature Access
SCR-103 Literature Synthesis and Review
SCR-104 Identifying a Meaningful Research Question
SCR-105 Introduction to Study Design

The program also includes "201-level" example study outlines to support learners who wish to design their own research studies.

The curriculum for this certificate was developed by a Curriculum Review Board of more than 110 SRNT member experts and volunteers from 20 countries. The Review Board is chaired by Lisa Sanderson Cox, PhD (University of Kansas School of Medicine) and co-chaired by Rasha K. Bader, MBA, PMP (King Hussein Cancer Center) and  Raúl Mejia, MD (Ministry of Health, Argentina). Aishwarya Vidyasagaran, MBBS, MPH (University of York) serves as Operations Coordinator for the Curriculum Review Board.

The Smoking Cessation Research Certificate curriculum consists of ten packages; each package includes recommended reading, a quiz, optional reading and an evaluation form that gives learners the opportunity to rate content and make suggestions for improvements. Each package also includes an "About This Package" document with a package description, learning objectives and information on the SRNT volunteers and subject matter experts involved in developing the material. A "How to Complete This Package" document guides learners through the process of accessing the reading material, quiz and evaluation for each package.

The quizzes for each package are designed to be a continuation of the learning experience, and should help the learners apply the material they've reviewed. Whenever possible, the quizzes involve real-life scenarios in nicotine and tobacco research. Achieving a passing grade (75% or more correct answers) will automatically result in the learner receiving a package completion certificate. Learners who successfully complete all ten packages will receive a Smoking Cessation Research Certificate.
